Deutsche Bank Squash Development programme
In September 2014, Deutsche Bank in Guernsey extended its sponsorship of the Deutsche Bank Squash Development Programme to see an expansion of both the 'Squash in Schools' and 'Development Squads' initiatives.
As part of the Squash in Schools initiative, Year 4 pupils from all schools across the Island will be able to take part in taster sessions with suitably qualified coaches, in conjunction with the Guernsey Sports Commission. The sessions will provide an introduction to the game and act as a pathway into the Development Program, and will be complemented by two primary festivals at Beau Sejour.
In addition, the Development Squads will provide an enhanced level of regular squad training, for all standards of playing up to 16 years of age, as well as graded tournaments and access to expert visiting coaches in Mike Workman, Squash Wales Director of Coaching, and Tim Vail, England Squash South Region Coach, who visit the island a few times a year.
The extended sponsorship means that the GSRA's local coaches in Janick Radford, Matt Robilliard and Martin Watts will lead three new initiatives designed to help pupils develop and master squash skills. These new initiatives include 'U11 Minis', for beginners starting out in their squash career, 'U13 Progress', where pupils will build on the skills they picked up from the Minis sessions, and 'U17 Elite' for those learning how to make the transition from junior to senior competition.
